Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Bank Berhad (“CIMB”) continues to advance customers and society by making everyday banking and overseas transactions more convenient and seamless for its CIMB OCTO App (“OCTO”) users. Customers can now make DuitNow QR payments at participating Alipay+ merchants in five new destinations namely China, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos, in addition to OCTO’s existing cross-border QR payment coverage in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. This gives customers greater convenience when travelling, allowing them to pay overseas using an app they already know and trust.

Enabled through Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“PayNet”)’s outbound DuitNow QR payment connectivity via Alipay+, the service allows customers to access the DuitNow QR payment function on OCTO, scan participating merchants’ QR codes displaying the Alipay+ logo, and review and confirm transactions directly within the app, without downloading another payment app or creating a separate Alipay+ account.

Haniz Nazlan, Chief Executive Officer, Group Consumer Banking, CIMB, said, "As our customers become increasingly connected and mobile, they expect banking to move seamlessly with them, including across borders. In line with our Forward30 strategy, our focus is on making everyday banking simpler, better and faster, wherever our customers are. Expanding OCTO’s DuitNow QR payment capabilities to more overseas destinations is another step towards that ambition, giving customers greater convenience and flexibility when they travel. Together with CIMB TravelCurrency and travel insurance on OCTO, this strengthens our broader travel proposition designed to support our customers’ needs wherever their journeys take them."

The expansion of CIMB DuitNow QR coverage builds on PayNet’s collaboration with Ant International through Alipay+, which connects more than two billion user accounts across over 50 international payment partners, with acceptance at more than 150 million merchants in over 220 markets. It complements the existing inbound payment capability, which enables users of supported Alipay+ partner wallets to pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. This will benefit local businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises when international visitors and tourists spend through DuitNow QR payments.

OCTO’s DuitNow QR recorded over half a million cross-border transactions as of September 2026, representing an increase of more than 150% year-on-year. Building on this momentum, CIMB will further strengthen OCTO’s capabilities to provide a more connected and seamless banking experience, progressively expanding customers’ access to Alipay+ payment destinations across more markets, empowering customers to manage their finances with greater ease wherever they are.
