Dr Azura Othman is the Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIIF). She was responsible for seeing through the corporate transformation exercise of the Institute and building the organizational structures of this first professional setting body for Islamic finance practitioners.
Dr Azura is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad since 2018 and chairs the Board Audit Committee. She sits on the Board of Trustee of Yayasan Petronas since April2021. She served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad from 2015 until 2020, during which time she chaired the Board Audit and there after the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and was a member of the Board Risk Management Committee.
She was a former Executive Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers Taxation Services, Malaysia and has over 19 years of experience in taxation including engagements relating to Islamic Finance. Among her major assignments include formulating the tax incentives for Malaysia as the International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) and advising industry associations on the tax implications of various legislations and accounting standards affecting the Takaful, Islamic Banking and REIT industries. Prior to that she has 7years of tax compliance experience in Deloitte Malaysia. She authoured a book in Macroeconomic Policy and Islamic Finance as well as various chapters and articles in Islamic finance.
